8 top tips to elevate your Facebook Ads

Running successful Facebook ads can take a bit of work (and a lot of patience) but there are some things you can do to help make sure you’re increasing your chances of success!

If you’re completely new to Facebook ads and want to know the basics when it comes to setting up a good one, check out my last blog here as I walk you through exactly how you can set up your ads!

But if you’re ready to learn a few extra tips to make the Facebook ads process a little easier, then keep reading!

Tip 1: Have a consistent naming structure

When you’re setting up your Facebook campaigns, make sure you have a good structure in place and that you follow it every time. This will save you a lot of time (and confusion) in the future, especially if you have multiple campaigns set up!

For example: [campign objective name] campaign for [campign topic] [start date]

Tip 2: Remember that Facebook ads are a big testing experience

One of my biggest tips, even though it might sound odd, is not to start using Facebook Ads and think you're going to get results straight away.

Of course, you might and that’s amazing if you do, but I’d recommend treating it as the huge opportunity that it is to test your audience and see what they respond best to.

It’s all about playing the long game so see your first few ads as a way to test the waters and learn so you can get better results, faster in the future.

Tip 3: Keep advantage detailed targeting off

If you’re new to using Facebook Ads, I’d recommend keeping the advantage detailed targeting off and instead focusing on testing your results based on the audience that you’ve selected because sometimes Facebook makes it too broad and you won't see  accurate results…which won’t be of any use to you in the future!

Tip 4: Utilise the e-commerce creative options

If you're running an e-commerce shop, the ads you create will be different from the ones you’d put together if you’re a serviced based business.

But if you are an e-commerce brand, make sure you’re utilising the special types of creatives available to you, for example, you can upload your product catalogue into the Facebook commerce centre and use this as a visual in your ad!

Tip 5: Experiment with your creatives

I always recommend having a few different creatives (probably no more than 3) for each ad to test them and see which ones your audience responds best to!

Then you can create future ad creatives based on the best-performing ones (As I said, Facebook ads are all about having patience and seeing what works for you!).

Tip 6: Be wary of the specific guidelines

To publish any Facebook ad it will have to be checked against the Facebook guidelines and policies so you always need to make sure your ad doesn’t go against any of these.

On top of these guidelines, if you’re in a specific category such as housing or politics, you might have to declare your ad as a special category ad so bear that in mind and make sure to check before publishing!

Tip 7: Keep the editing to a minimum

You want to avoid editing your Facebook ads too frequently after you’ve published them. Each time you edit an ad, it forces it back into a learning phase which pulls your results back a bit because Facebook is then trialing something new, rather than optimising what it’s identified as a good way to push your ad.

Obviously, if you’ve made a spelling mistake or a typo, it’s okay to go in and change it but you definitely don’t want to be changing it every day or week.

Tip 8: Keep your links cohesive

If you're sending someone to a website page from your ad, you need to make sure the page you're sending them to is relevant to the ad you’ve created. Facebook will scan the page you link to make sure your ad is as it should be and genuine.

So make sure your links make sense!
