Introducing the blog!

Hey Girl! I’m so excited to finally be writing this blog (it’s been on my to-do list for a while now but I’ve been so busy serving my clients something had to give).

I thought I’d kick things off by introducing myself, my business and what to expect from the blog! So if you’re new around here, we can get to know each other a bit better!

Let’s jump right in, shall we?

Nice to meet you, I’m Sophie

I’m the travel-loving, gym fanatic, cat owner who runs Sophie Angell Marketing!

But marketing was not always my goal…in fact, at university, I was set to go down a very different path. And if I asked you to guess what I got my degree in, it would probably take you a while!

(The answer is Geography!!)

So at this point, you’re probably wondering how I got from geography to marketing and quite rightly so!

That transition was all thanks to the online magazine our uni produced. I’d signed up to help their marketing team and that’s when I quickly realised that Geography wasn’t the route I wanted to take, I was destined to work in marketing.

From there I managed to get a job working for a digital marketing agency in Exeter (I have Gemma Collins to thank for that one…but that’s a story for another time!) where I learned sooo much. After working there for 2 years and expanding my knowledge in digital marketing I decided to leave Exeter and set up on my own and that’s how Sophie Angell Marketing was born! (Although that’s not what I called it when I started, we’ve all been through a re-brand right? I’ll dish the dirt on this another day).

Let’s talk business

When I first started my business, things looked a little different to what they do now and there’s one reason for that: Covid.

Pre-covid, I worked mainly with locally-based businesses and would more often not be found visiting them! But naturally, covid changed all that and my business became remote.

Although daunting at first this altered the scope of my clients and I can now proudly say I work with businesses all over the world (and as someone who loves to travel, that’s pretty exciting). I’m secretly hoping I’ll be able to visit them someday because how cool would that be?!

Although the way I do business has changed slightly, there is one thing that has stayed the same and it’s a bit controversial so brace yourselves!

I don’t have a niche.

I know, I’m completely breaking a trend as a marketer by saying that because you’ll often find markers telling you to niche down. However, I’m very much about doing what feels right and good to you and sometimes, that involves not limiting yourself to a niche!

Not having a niche, has allowed me to work with a whole range of people from hypnotherapists to hotels, online coaches to food-based brands! The one thing they all have in common? We connect really well.

And personally, I love the variety it gives me! I’ve learned a lot in my 9 years of marketing and it means I’m pretty well equipped to help you navigate through the minefield that marketing can feel like, no matter what industry you’re in.

Because let’s face it, marketing your business can feel overwhelming and confusing and Honey, I’m not here for it! I like to keep things simple for you whilst creating and implementing effective marketing strategies that really work!

For example, I helped Pink ‘n’ Whites (a mallow based food brand) grow their Facebook page to 60k likes, elevating their business and increasing their visibility. Want to know how I did this? Keep in touch and I might just spill the secrets.

All about the blog

Okay so we’ve covered me and my business so the only thing left is this blog!

My main aim is to have this as a space to build up a community (as this is really important to me) and share all my marketing tips and tricks to help you better navigate through all of the marketing roadblocks you might be facing.

It’ll be an honest space where I might drop a few truth bombs but I promise I’ll provide lots of helpful insight into the marketing world and ways to help elevate your business so it can fly!

So if you’re searching for an honest, fun and genuinely helpful blog that might just play a role in elevating your business, then you’re in the right place!

Fancy sticking around? Then make sure to give me a follow on Instagram and we can be friends!
