Why You Shouldn’t Rely On Social Media To Market Your Business in 2023

Thanks to Covid, we went through a period where people honed in on using social media as their primary (or even their only) marketing tool.

And I can see why! Social media can be a great way to create exposure and share your brand- you might even go viral a few times!

But now the world has started to open up again and social media keeps evolving…and not necessarily for the better ( (Instagram, I’m looking at you… cue angry responses to Instagram pushing Reels as the main content in 2022)! And there’s a general feeling that social media is becoming a little too demanding. Give me a holla, if you’re struggling to keep with the latest trends.

I’ve always stood by the importance of a comprehensive marketing strategy, but now others are beginning to see this too… and have started looking for other ways to market their business so they have a whole marketing suite at their disposal.

So, if you are one of these people who is a little fed up with playing the algorithms game when it comes to social media and wants to find other ways to effectively market your business in 2023, then here are some things I’d consider!

Social media

As I’ve just said, social media can be a great way to grow and market your business.

However, using social media to do this does not mean only posting on Instagram! So if you do want to continue marketing your business on social media in 2023 (which I would recommend!), I’d maybe think about expanding on to other platforms like Pinterest, LinkedIn or Facebook!

Just make sure they’re the right fit for your business and are where your target audience hangs out.

Podcasting

Podcasting has become way more popular in recent years and for good reason!

It’s a very easy way for people to express what they do, explain their business, and give insights in a verbal way! A lot of people have found this easier than having to dedicate time to sit down and create 10 different types of content!

It’s a fab way to connect more directly with your audience and for them to become more familiar with who you are and what you do.

Also, if you do start a podcast, you can use it to create content for your website and socials really easily. In fact, this is exactly the purpose of my Repurposing service! I take your podcast and turn it into content for social media, blogs, and even emails. If you’d like to find out more, click here!

SEO

SEO (Search engine optimisation) should  be a part of your marketing strategy if you work in the online space and have social media or a website.

SEO is the process of optimising your website so that it ranks higher on search engines.

There are two types of SEO you need to consider:

1). Content - The best way to boost your organic SEO is by regularly uploading blogs to your website, updating your website copy ever so often, and using keywords in your copy.

2). Technical- A couple of ways you can boost your SEO from a technical perspective include;  sending your site maps to Google and making sure your page speed is fast.

Pay Per Click (PPC)

Although it’s crucial to work on organically building up your web presence, this can take a very long time!

So if you have the budget available and you want to bring more attention to your business or say you’re about to launch, you could set up a Pay Per Click campaign that is targeted to a specific audience.

This is a great way to get results fast if done properly!

Email Marketing

Email marketing is a great marketing tool for any business. It’s also very versatile, meaning you can use it in a variety of ways such as to welcome clients into your business, as part of a funnel, through sequences, or by sending monthly newsletters!

Sending monthly newsletters is one of the most popular ways to utilise email marketing as it enables you to talk to your audience straight from their inbox.

However, you have to keep this consistent, strategise and use it regularly.

Think about it, if you’re only emailing your audience once a month, that's only 12 opportunities to get in front of your audience.

So my advice would be to up your email marketing game in 2023, and if you need help increasing your schedule or adding some strategy to your campaigns, I’d love to help!

PR

PR is a great way to make you and your business more visible and although when someone says ‘PR’ our minds go to celebrities and PR stunts, PR is a great marketing tool for business too!

I’d recommend incorporating this into your overall marketing strategy. Here are some ways you can do this:

  • Planning Collaborations with other businesses

  • Make guest appearances on other people's social media channels (like a story take over)

  • Write guest articles for magazines

  • Get involved with talks

  • Offer to talk/advise in other people's Masterminds

Whatever you do, just make sure that it makes sense for you and your business and will have a positive impact on your business.

Try it old school

In this online world, it's very easy to forget about the ‘old school’ marketing tactics, but they can be really effective.

Especially if your business isn’t based online.

Things like appearing in local magazines or newspapers, asking other businesses to share your business cards, handing out flyers and attending in-person networking events are great ways to market your business.

Turn to the experts

The truth is, that creating a comprehensive and cohesive marketing strategy is no easy task.

Finding what works for you is a process and it’ll take time and continued effort to figure it out and that’s normal!

My advice is to try different tactics, see what works and what doesn’t, and go from there!

And if you’re tired of constantly trying to figure it out yourself, try reaching out to an expert ( like me!).
